Our Lady of Merces Church, Colva stands as a spiritual and cultural landmark in the heart of Colva, South Goa. Founded in the 17th century, the church has been a place of faith, mercy, and community life for generations of parishioners and devotees.
Dedicated to Nossa Senhora de Merces (Our Lady of Mercy), the church is best known for the veneration of the Infant Jesus (Menino Jesus). Every year, the church becomes the centre of deep devotion during the Fama of the Infant Jesus, a unique and cherished tradition that draws thousands of faithful from across Goa and beyond. During this sacred celebration, the Infant Jesus is solemnly brought down for public veneration, symbolising God’s closeness, mercy, and love for all.
Beyond its religious significance, the church has played an important role in the social and spiritual life of Colva, accompanying families through baptisms, weddings, feasts, and moments of prayer and remembrance. The simple yet graceful architecture reflects Goa’s rich Christian heritage and colonial past.
